The eaTracker is designed to work with most current and standards-compliant web browsers. If you're having difficulty, we recommend using the newest version of one of the following standards-compliant browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox , Chrome or Safari.
Q: Why is eaTracker too big to fit on my screen?
eaTracker has been designed to fit on computer monitors with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels or greater. Your screen resolution is most likely set to 800 x 600 pixels. To change your computer monitor’s screen resolution, consult the help documentation included with your computer.

Q: I want to use eaTracker. How do I sign up?
Before you can use eaTracker, you need to sign up for an account.
Q: How do I login?
Go to: Login and enter in your email address and chosen password
Q: I forgot my password, what do I do?
Go to: Login and click the "Lost Your Password?" link. Instructions to reset your password will be sent to the email address associated to your eaTracker account.
Q: How do I update my account information (password, email address)?
Click on "My Profile" in the top left hand corner and select "My Account" from the left navigation menu.
Q: How do I update my personal information (activity level, pregnant, breastfeeding)?
Click on "My Profile" in the top left hand corner and select "My Details" from the left navigation menu.
Q: Why do I need to enter my weight?
Your proper weight is needed in order to provide accurate feedback such as your Body Mass Index (BMI). You should update your weight if it has changed since the last time you used eaTracker.
Q: Where do I find feedback for my BMI?
Click on the "My BMI" menu from the left navigation.
Q: Why do I need to enter my activity level?
Your usual activity level is needed in order to provide accurate feedback such as your Estimated Energy Requirement (EER). You should update your activity level if it has changed since the last time you used eaTracker.
Q: Can I update a day from the past or plan a meal for the future?
Yes! You can use the calendar to navigate to any date that you would like. Once you select a date by clicking on the day, you will be able to choose food and activity items for that particular day. Therefore you can track a previous week's activity and eating habits or you can create a meal and activity plan for the next month. eaTracker gives you the flexibility! It is important to note that for past days, the weight you have entered at this time is the weight that will be used to calculate the BMI for this day. Therefore your BMI feedback may be different than BMI feedback for future or current dates.
It is also important to note that for past days, the activity level you have entered at this time will be used to calculate your Estimated Energy Requirement (EER) for this day. Therefore your EER feedback may be different than the EER feedback for future or current dates.
Q: I'm on the Food Search, what do I do?
Now that you're on the Food Search page you may search for foods, beverages or supplements that you have had on the particular day you selected using the search feature. Just type in the food (for example: chicken) and select the button "Search". The foods, beverages and supplements will be returned that correspond with your search query.
Once you have completed your search, select which meal the item corresponds to (either breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, or evening snack), adjust the quantity based on how much of that food you ate (for example, enter 2 if you want 2 apples) and select "ADD". The item will be added to the Daily Menu. You can also add in partial quantities by using decimals. For example, for a half quantity, enter in 0.5.
Q: How do I search?
In the search field, you can search by phrase. For example, if you enter taco salad, the search feature will search for all records that include the word taco AND the word salad. Adding the word AND is not necessary as it is included by default.
Q: What if I can't find an item?
Try simplifying your search by searching for one word (e.g flax). Also, check the spelling (e.g. broccoli not brocolli). If a food cannot be found it may not be in the database.
We currently use foods and supplements found in the Canadian Nutrient File (CNF) to populate the eaTracker database. Unfortunately, at this point in time, we cannot add other foods to the database, and you cannot add other foods to your profile, because for these other foods, we would not have complete nutritional information or serving sizes from the Canada Food Guide. When the CNF is updated, eaTracker will also be updated.
Q: How do I enter fractions for food quantity?
You must enter the quantity in decimal format. For example, ? is 0.5 and ? is 0.25.
Q: I'm finished entering my food items, now what?
Once you've finished adding your items to your daily menu, you may click on one of the menus under My Eating Feedback on the left navigation to view an analysis of your day’s intake.
Q: Can I create or save a list of common foods I typically eat to save me from having to search for them every time?
You can save a list of common foods to My Pantry. To add items to the pantry, check the Pantry checkboxes from the Food Search results list.
Q: I'm on the Activity Search, what do I do?
Now that you're on the Activity Search you may search for activities that you may have performed on the particular day you selected using the search feature. Just type in the activity (for example: running) and press the button "Search". The activities will be returned that correspond with your search query. You can also browse by category. Just click on the category and the activities will be returned that correspond to that category.
Once you have found an activity through either searching or browsing, enter in the duration of your activity in minutes and select "ADD". The item will be added to the Activity Log. For example, if you went jogging for an hour and 20 minutes, enter in 80 in the duration box.
Q: What if I can't find an item?
If an activity cannot be found, try simplifying your search by searching for one word or browse by category (e.g. if you can't find "Nordic skiing" try "skiing"). You should also check the spelling of the activity. If an activity cannot be found it may not be in the database. You may need to choose an activity that is the most similar to the activity that you are looking for (e.g. if you are looking for "carpentry" choose "housework - home repair" instead).
You may make a suggestion using the feedback form to suggest an activity be added to the database. Please be advised that we cannot guarantee that all suggestions will result in an activity being added to our database.
